A theory that can explain this finding from an evolutionary perspective is the parasite-stress theory which explains that an increase of infectious disease can cause humans to evolve selectively according to these pressures. Evidence also shows that as disease risk gets higher, it puts a level of stress on mating selection and increases the use of polygamy. In regions such as Sub-Saharan Africa the use of polygyny is commonly practiced as a consequence of high sex-ratios more males born per females and passing on heterozygous diverse genetics from different females to offspring. Another reason that polygynous communities have larger age-gaps between spouses is that intrasexual competition for females increases as fewer females remain on the marriage market with males having more than one wife each , therefore the competitive advantage values younger females due to their higher reproductive value. Smaller than average age-gaps[ edit ] Comparatively in Western societies such as the US and Europe, there is a trend of smaller age-gaps between spouses, reaching its peak average in Southern Europe of 3. Using the same pathogen-stress model, there is a lower prevalence of disease in these economically developed areas, and therefore a reduced stress on reproduction for survival. Additionally, it is common to see monogamous relationships widely in more modern societies as there are more women in the marriage market and polygamy is illegal throughout most of Europe and the United States. As access to education increases worldwide, the age of marriage increases with it, with more of the youth staying in education for longer. The mean age of marriage in Europe is well above 25, and averaging at 30 in Nordic countries, however this may also be due to the increase of cohabitation in European countries.

Things in the firearms community have gotten way out of control. There was a time when a gun just fired bullets and the measure of success was determined by the one pulling the trigger. No lasers or Christmas tree ornaments hanging from the barrel. A simple but effective firearm in the hands of a well trained, well practiced artist decided the fate of those engaged.
Back to the basics is my rally cry and let us start with learning to shoot again.

I knew I wanted to have one made up for me. Like most such plans, it fell by the wayside in the face of family, work and finances. I kept it around though, because I liked the way it handled and I shot it a lot. I was the only revolver shooter in the class. But the model 12, and other guns like it, offer some advantages over the lightweight pocket guns. In contrast, my J-frame Model Airweight.

Early history[ edit ] Horace Smith and Daniel B. Smith developed a new Volcanic Cartridge , which he patented in Smith left the company and returned to his native Springfield, Massachusetts , while Wesson stayed on as plant manager with Volcanic Repeating Arms. His research pointed out that a former Colt employee named Rollin White held the patent for a “Bored-through” cylinder, a component he would need for his invention.
Wesson reconnected with Smith and the two partners approached White to manufacture a newly designed revolver-and-cartridge combination. At the end of the war the U. Government charged White with causing the retardation of arms development in America. In the company switched focus from pocket sized revolvers to a large frame revolver in heavier calibers. With over 6 million produced, it became the standard sidearm of American police officers for much of the 20th century.
It was designed as a more powerful handgun for law enforcement officers.

With this order, the Hand Ejector Model became known as the. Barrel lengths were 4, 5, 6, and 6. Butt serial Yoke number is kind of strange but is laid out like this: N 8 On the swing out frame is the number I read through all the other posts and could not find an answer so maybe one of you experts can enlighten me. The barrel is not heavy by my estimation, it is pinned, and it is a hand eject. It has three screws on the right side of the frame and one on the front of the trigger guard. After copies were pressed onto the paper, the paper entered the cabinet under the copier, where it dried on a large roller. An attachment was used to cut dried copies off the roll. Numerous companies produced roller copiers over a period of three decades. For example, Plate 11B shows a Rapid Duplicator that was advertised in Copies could be made more quickly with a roller copier than with a letter copying press.
The J-frame Smith & Wesson revolver is a must-have carry gun in my book. I’ve been carrying a model as a backup both on and off duty for almost fifteen years now. There are a lot of nifty little auto pistols on the market today, but none of them come out of the front pocket.
This information original was found on The Unofficial Ampeg Page http: I pulled this information from Google’s cache of the site. It has a note at the top of the page that they were reprinting with permission from the authors of Ampeg: If anyone feels this page should be taken down, please feel free to contact me. Ampegs can be divided into six distinct groups for dating purposes: Each group uses a unique serialization scheme that can be used to assist in dating the amps, but in many cases, it is the features and characteristics of the amps that determine the year of manufacture.
Electronic Industries Association EIA codes can also be very useful for giving clues as to an amp’s age. These codes can be found on speakers, transformers, pots, capacitors, and multi-section electrolytic “can” caps. Of course, these codes are only applicable to original components, not replacement parts. Ampeg amplifiers, especially the high-powered amps such as the SVT and V-series, contain lethal voltages even when unplugged and turned off. Therefore, do not poke around in your old Ampeg if you are unfamiliar with amplifier electronics or their operation.
A brief summary of the EIA system follows. Shortly after World War II, American electronic component manufacturers began to stamp a semi-standardized code into the parts they produced. The code contained information regarding the manufacture and date of production.

Ice-sheet dynamics Sampling the surface of Taku Glacier in Alaska. There is increasingly dense firn between surface snow and blue glacier ice. An ice core is a vertical column through a glacier, sampling the layers that formed through an annual cycle of snowfall and melt. At Summit Camp in Greenland, the depth is 77 m and the ice is years old; at Dome C in Antarctica the depth is 95 m and the age years. The bubbles disappear and the ice becomes more transparent.
Ice is lost at the edges of the glacier to icebergs , or to summer melting, and the overall shape of the glacier does not change much with time. These can be located using maps of the flow lines. These include soot, ash, and other types of particle from forest fires and volcanoes ; isotopes such as beryllium created by cosmic rays ; micrometeorites ; and pollen.
It can be up to about 20 m thick, and though it has scientific value for example, it may contain subglacial microbial populations , it often does not retain stratigraphic information. In polar areas, the sun is visible day and night during the local summer and invisible all winter. It can make some snow sublimate , leaving the top inch or so less dense. When the sun approaches its lowest point in the sky, the temperature drops and hoar frost forms on the top layer. Buried under the snow of following years, the coarse-grained hoar frost compresses into lighter layers than the winter snow.
As a result, alternating bands of lighter and darker ice can be seen in an ice core.

They were cranking these things out by the jillions about then so mid plus or minus a month or two would probably peg your gun at D XXX. Your -5 revision is the standard tapered barrel as opposed to my -6 revision which is the Heavy Barrel variant, both utilizing the same serial number range simultaneously. A fairly well used example of a Model from about kept on hand as a “spare. Some call it the “pencil barrel” as a silly nickname, this is the standard barrel which has the traditional characteristic taper.
I can tell little practical difference between shooting the two variants as recoil with loads across the performance spectrum are about the same to me.

My wife purchased a model 36 before we were married from a gun show. I’ve been researching the internet for quite some time and getting alot of conflicting information. I’m getting differing opinions as to where the serial number is. Some references are saying the butt of the handle and some say inside the hinge. On the grip butt there is a prefix of AEJ which I find no reference. The following numbers are The revolver is stamped with model 36 inside the hinge which I see means after The serial numbers that I found on the internet do not make sense with the numbers that I am finding.
The number inside the hinge which some references that I found say that this is the serial number is The info that I’ve seen reference XX’s following numbers – that is not the case with this. The gun is; I believe a 2 screw? The barrel release is not the older flat from what I can tell but curved. I see reference to “pinning” but am not sure what that means.
